[EN] A few wonders from the UK / [RO] Câteva minunăţii din UK (31)

[EN] Anyone (more or less desperately) longing for the summer? I bet I’m not the only one…

[EN] None of us can bring summer quicker just by wishing this :-(

[EN] What I can do is share these pictures of Ely, situated some 23 km NE of Cambridge Cambridgeshire.

[EN] Taken by my reader C.L. in the summer of 2011.

[RO] Făcute de cititoarea mea C.L. în vara lui 2011.

[EN] Just as I was preparing this post, the sun came out over Bucharest for a short while :-)

[RO] Pe când pregăteam această postare, soarele s-a ivit peste Bucureşti pentru scurt timp :-)

[EN] Who else but God knows all our thoughts?

[RO] Cine altcineva decât Dumnezeu ne ştie toate gândurile?

Chestii d-astea, numai la britanici (35) [Things like these, only at the Brits]

[EN] A few wonders from the UK / [RO] Câteva minunăţii din UK (27)

[EN] It’s a very beautiful place in England (and well known around the world) where I haven’t been to (yet?!).

[EN] However, I invite anyone landing on this page to take a short virtual trip there…

[EN] …thanks to these pictures (taken in the summer of 2011) by my reader C.L.

[EN] A little city surounded by intellingent (high tech) businesses, of no more than 110,000 inhabitants.

[EN] Of whom a fifth are students from all over the world, learning about almost everything, from medical sciences to theology.

[EN] A place with an aristocratic fragrance (pics 1, 20) of times of yore; I don’t know if the locals also have aristocratic airs :-)

[EN] With colourful gardens (5), bustling little streets (4, 14, 16), fairs (3), typically British  houses (9, 10, 18), even some homeless people (8) many bikes (14, 20),  and… boats (2, 17).

[RO] Cu grădini colorate (5), străduţe pline de viaţă (4, 14, 16), târguri (3), case tipic britanice (9, 10, 18), chiar şi oameni fără adăpost (8), multe biciclete (14, 20) şi… bărci (2, 17).

[EN] An elitist environment where only the brightest enter, (allegedly) to get out even smarter, prone to ‘success’.

[EN] If only intellectual achievements guaranteed for kindness of heart, instead of barren individualism, and if they were premises for a happy and meaningful life!

[EN] The pictures in this 27th episode were taken in… – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.

– Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.

[EN] A few wonders from the UK / [RO] Câteva minunăţii din UK (26)

[EN] Some people around me (and many more out of my close circle, of course) are quite crazy about the sea. Seeing it is a yearly ‘must-do-thing’.

[EN] So have been all the women that I have ever been romantically involved with. To a certain extent, their imagined happiness had something to do with….

[EN] …waves, breeze, sand, seagulls, sunrises and sunsets, sea shells, sun bathing, totuşi, not with… sailing. Out of fear of sea-sickeness? Maybe not…

[EN] Actually, sailing was not very popular in Romania of my teenage years, and I assume it is something almost as exculsive as golf is anywhere in the world.

[EN] Initially in California (2007), then in Brighton (2008), I was first saw boats and marinas like those I had only seen in films.

[EN] I wasn’t quite mesmerized; I was reasonably thrilled, I could say, as few people would remain untouched by such a view.

[EN] There’s an air of perpetual leisure among these boats, as if their owners didn’t have problems (nor lives in general) like other people.

[EN] It’s surely a false image, as there were also fishing boats (pics 5, 6, 8), but we like to dream that richness = happiness, don’t we?

[EN] The pictures in this 26th episode were taken in… – Brighton Marina, to the east of Brighton & Hove municipality, in East Sussex.
